What is the SORA Renewal Class?

If you already hold a SORA Certification for security guards, It is a requirement to renew it every year to continue working in the security industry. Our SORA Renewal Course is an 8-hour course, All SORA security guards should renew their certificat up to 90 days PRIOR to the expiration date. Early renewals will NOT make changes to your 2 year term, that still remains the same. All steps require a government-issued ID and payment is done online by credit card (preloaded cards accepted).

How often do you need to renew the  SORA certification?

SORA certification must be renewed every one or two years up to 90 days before the expiration date to continue working legally as a security officer in New Jersey.

For armed security officers:

The 8-hour refresher course must be completed annually (every year).

For unarmed security officers:

The 8-hour refresher course is required every two years when renewing certification.

What are the steps to the SORA renewal class?

Before you even sign up for the class:

1. Start your renewal with the NJ State Police:
   • Go to https://eapps.njsp.org/applicant/logon.do
   • Log in as a “Returning Applicant”. If you don’t have an account, follow the steps to create one and obtain your official registration from the NJ State Police.
   • Submit your renewal application and pay the associated fee (Visa, MasterCard, Discover accepted).
   • Complete the required electronic fingerprints process if required to.

Now you’re ready to take the renewal class:

2. Register for the SORA Renewal Class: Find a class offered by a SORA-certified instructor. You can usually find these through security training companies or online.

3. Complete the Course: The 8-hour refresher class will cover essential security topics and updates.

How do I schedule my fingerprinting appointment?

You’ll be prompted to schedule fingerprinting during your NJSP registration, costing $68.98, payable at your appointment. This can be completed before or after attending your SORA class.

• Homeland Security/Counterterrorism: Procedures and awareness related to security threats.
• Communications: Effective radio usage, report writing, and communication skills in security situations.
• Emergency Response/ICS (Incident Command System): Understanding your role in emergency procedures and coordinated response.
• Theft Prevention: Methods to identify and deter theft of various kinds.

When are the SORA Renewal classes offered?

All our classes are hosted online and are offered to students on a weekly basis virtually through zoom approved to cover the entire state of New Jersey region with a live and certified instructore who is very helpful and will guide you through the class.

How do I prepare for my virtual Security Guard SORA renewal class?

1. Technology Check:

   • Strong internet connection: Make sure you are at a location with good internet
   • Quiet space: Attend the class from somwhere weher you will not be distrubed for the entire duration
   • Webcam: It is a requirement to have your webcam  on throughout the training class for attendance verification.

2. Zoom Setup:

   • Understand the basics: If you’re new to Zoom, familiarize yourself with how to join a meeting, mute/unmute yourself, and use the chat function. You can find helpful tutorials online.
   • Access code: You’ll receive your unique Zoom meeting code and instructions via email after your registering for the class.

3. Get Ready to Learn:

   • Class materials: All necessary documents will be provided upon registrationon the same day.
   • Big screen: Aim to use a computer or tablet which are larger screen devices for the best viewing experience.
   • Engage and participate: Your active involvement is crucial for a successful SORA certification, so please be present mentally as well as physically.

What happens after I complete the SORA class?

Typically, a short assessment or test is conducted at the end of the renewal class to ensure understanding of the refreshed material. Passing this assessment is required to renew your certification.

After completing the renewal class, if you haven’t already, you must reapply for your SORA certification with the NJ State Police. Ensure all your personal details are updated and any additional requirements such as fingerprinting are completed.

How do I access my virtual SORA class?

Once you’ve booked your class, we will email you detailed instructions along with an access code for Zoom, the platform we use for virtual training. Zoom allows for interactive sessions where you can engage directly with your instructors and classmates. It’s user-friendly and ensures a seamless virtual learning environment.

What if I miss a class or part of the virtual SORA training?

You need to attend the full class so if you’re unable to attend your scheduled class or are late for the class, we offer the flexibility to reschedule for the next available class at no additional charge. However, space is subject to availability, and we ask for 24 hours’ notice if possible. Please contact us to confirm availability for rescheduling.

Do I need to be present for the full duration of the renewal class to be issued my certificate?

Yes, attendance for the entire renewal class duration is legally required to be eligible for SORA certification. Should you be late or miss the class, we’ll accommodate you in the next available class without extra cost, ensuring you meet the requirement for full attendance.

What about Refunds

Students are entitled to a 100% refund if the request is made a day before the training. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be issued for non-attendance or requests made on the day of the class. If you miss your class, you’re welcome to reschedule for another date by sending us an email, without additional charges. As an approved training school, we do not assess non-refundable registration fees, deposits, or cancellation fees.
